The Weekend Proggie

WKND Proggie: Dec. 13th

By this time, many of you might have known the good news: “No VAT on sanitary pads”.

There are a lot of positive angles to look at this, but let me just commend the efficiency and caring of the policy-makers of the Rwandan government.

As we celebrate, let’s keep rolling our minds on how to reduce teen pregnancies and have more efficient ways to talk about sexual reproductive health. Regarding this topic, I heard someone say, “I would rather get HIV than being pregnant”… shall we legalize abortion or avail contraceptive pills, avail condoms for both males and females?

One of my friends mentioned something: “These parents talking about abstinence are ignoring how things were done and biological facts. In early days, people used to be wed before they even reach 25 years old. Our ancestors were not stupid.”

What I understood from his message was that we can’t keep doing the same thing, if the gospel of abstinence is failing us; we should be flexible and look for an alternative, and fast. We should begin by dealing with the stigma around pregnant teens (itself, killing) and then find a solution that won’t endanger the youth while keeping them safe. YES WE CAN.

XMAS Bazaar

WKNDers and WKNDresses, it’s that time of the year. The festive season is a kids’ favorite time of the year. If you don’t have one, take your nephews and nieces, or at least adopt one. They have a way to make this time special and you don’t want to be on their blacklist during this time of the year because unlike other times, this one sticks. You don’t want to spend 2020 hearing things like, “last Christmas season was boring because of you, it was my worst.” And that’s why the WKNDer is here and if played right, this WKND could get you on top of the score card. Xmas Bazaar with a kids corner, gift corner and food corner – what more would you need!

Santa: the kids’ fantasy gift machine. Kids of today. Back in the days, new clothes and a pair of new shoes would do for Christmas, but nowadays dare to not take him/her to see Santa, to face paint or bounce in a jumping castle, it will be an act of war.

Shop for Good

The famous time of the year – because it gets to be labelled on every activity taking place around that time – is mostly characterized by gifts. Besides birthdays, it’s the only time people get to share gifts, and here is one of the places where you could buy those gifts. But it’s special because it will also be lending a hand to women and youth with disabilities. It’s Christmas Market. Oh and hey, Santa will be there physically or spiritually.

Time: 10 AM – 6 PM

Venue: Onomo hotel (Kigali)
