The Weekend Proggie

Your WKND Proggie – Oct. 25th

Kigali is a fast-moving city. Spending three days without frequenting a zone, the next time you do, Google maps will have to be used.

This applies to everything happening around in the cleanest city in Africa, especially the parties and entertainment events.

As a result, people like me can no longer keep up with party animaals. I had been going to more chilled events until one of my entertainment editors gave me a ticket to John Drille’s performance at Kigali Jazz junction.

I really love music and what I got that night was some pure music.

My soul was somehow fed with that organic, ‘straight outta farm‘ product: live music, as opposed to this music from Spotify, Audiomack or wherever you fetch your music from. Additionally, people were dancing and those who didn’t know how to, were bobbing their heads to the music. I personally enjoyed the show. I guess, it narrows down to the band and the artistes (and that’s another story for another day).

Friday

All that to mean that another event like that one is at a stone’s throw. If you love live music, this is the place to be. Oh and I almost forgot, it would be on a FRI-YAY night, no excuses!

Like my friend Gary, some of you like static events: no jumping-up-and-down-like events. At least watching a movie, one can’t behave pizzazzy-ish.

So if you like watching films, you might want to take a glance at what this year’s Rwanda Film Festival is offering.

Did I mention that I love music? So on top of liking it, I happen to be able to find my way around the piano. It just means that instead of looking at it as some well-aligned white and black ivory, I can put some name-tags on them; chords or musical notes.

Recently, I began picking out some of guitar chords as well. Playing an instrument can be one of the most relaxing and satisfying exercises on Earth.

Those who know how to, weren’t born with it. They had to learn at some point, so if you’re interested in learning how to pick those guitar strings we have something for you too.

Back in high school, we used to have what was called Jeudi Noir, ‘Black Thursday’, if I may say.

This day was an opportunity for seeking revenge on the headmaster’s spies or students who were thought to report others. Only God could save their skins that day.

This time round, we’re having Black Food Festival. But trust me, this time no one will be beaten. Mind you, it will be all about black or darkly-coloured food, cosmetics, clothing & accessories. I can already smell some dark chocolate tarts and I can’t help but salivate as I type this.

Foodie fix lovers as well as food lovers, this is your event. Who doesn’t love food anyway!

Sunday

Some people take the last weekend of the month as a time to recollect and visualize the ending month.

This is on one hand to assess how it’s been and reward themselves for the achievements. On another hand, it’s a good opportunity to note every mistake and challenges faced during that month and come up with new measures for the coming month.

What better way to do this than at a yoga and meditation mini-retreat with a monk from Thailand?
