Whether you are single or part of a couple, there are plenty of things to do in this town to show that you care about your partner, your friends or yourself! February 14th is approaching fast so we will bring you our best ideas. Tell us yours!
- Sweets for your Sweet🍬
This is a classic, but with good reason because who doesn’t like chocolates or pastries? As a gift to your loved ones, wrapped in a pretty ribbon, or just to indulge yourself. We especially like the luscious éclairs from Baso Patisserie in Kiyovu and the delicate pralines and bonbons from Chocolate Point (at the entrance of Pili Pili). They have even created special heart-shaped chocolates and pralines for Valentine’s Day, so secure your order BEFORE February 10th!
2. A Love Letter
It’s always important to remember you are awesome. So, what can be more romantic than a letter listing all the things that are special about you. Write a love letter to your partner, your bestie or – why not? – to yourself. You can even write it on a banana, like Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex. So, grab that pen and spread the love! Get inspired here.
3. Dinner & Drinks
No Valentine’s Day is complete without a candle-lit dinner with food, lots of food. And there is plenty of choice this year. Just to name a few: The Hut presents a 6-course Valentine’s special with beverage pairings; Cucina located at Kigali Marriott Hotel serves a 4-course Italian Lover’s dinner for two and 360 Degrees Pizza offers a 3-course gourmet dinner special for 2 with a bottle of wine. If you are single, don’t despair: there is a special Valentine’s Meet & Greet cocktail waiting for you at Kigali Marriott’s Iriba Bar and Terrace from 6-8PM where you can mingle with old and new friends.
4. Love is in the Air
If you are longing for a trip abroad then you are in luck. Rwandair has a special “Double the love for half the price” Valentine’s promo. If you book a ticket to any destination before Feb 8, your companion can travel for free (which means they only pay the government tax). So, Dubai here we come!
5. Get pampered!
Relax at one of the amazing spas Kigali has to offer. A massage, a facial or a body scrub, as long as you feel beautiful on the most romantic day of the year. Head to Saray Spa at the Marriott for a Valentine’s day aroma-therapy special including a sparkling wine cocktail and sweets. For couples or just for you. Or indulge in a Bali Spa treatment including a body glow and petal bath for couples at Spa Soul Space.
6. Romance on the screen
No need to go out after a heavy meal. Cuddle up on the couch with Netflix for one of their many Valentine’s Day favorites. Here’s a little trick to access them quickly: use this link https://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/1952249 or, if you are using an app, type 1952249 in your search bar of the app.
Here at the WEEKENDER, we swoon over: She’s Got to Have It, a Spike Lee classic; Plan de Coeur, a refreshing fresh-faced comedy; Serenity, a tightly-paced sci-fi for those seeking something closer to action/adventure; and for thrill-seekers, Lust, Caution, an award-winning film set in 1930’s Hong Kong, will provide a simmering dose of lust and espionage.
7. Retail therapy
Finding a perfect gift doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. What matters is that you are thoughtful and on Valentine’s Day especially, you just want to make your partner or friend feel the love. At Dokmai Rwanda you can buy a leather bracelet and have it personalized with your name, initials or other. Or how about some pretty stationary from Ikirezi bookstore? Or browse Inema Arts Center for an original work of art?
